The Rides of The Rider's Workshop
Southeast Ohio Tour

The Southeast Ohio Workshop is a three day Tour covering Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio. It is geared for spirited riders who have taken at least two Rider’s Workshops with me. The focus of this Tour is putting all the Workshop skills together, endurance (the Tour is roughly 1100 miles), and developing your own style of riding motorcycles.  Southeast Ohio is referred to as the Rhine Valley of Ohio. Some of the country's curviest roads are there but they're hard to find.  The roads are literally invisible unless you know they're there. I know most of them and I'd like to show them to you.

The Workshop begins at 7:30 AM at the McDonalds in Myersville, Maryland. Myersville is easy to get to from Thurmont, Maryland if you're spending the night at the Cozy. You'll want to be on time and have a full tank of gas. We’ll have breakfast at the McDonalds where  I'll review the highlights of the day’s Tour.  I'll also review the Course Syllabus and your two way radio. Then we'll hit the Interstate for a piece before we drop down to take to secondary roads farther west. Then we’ll disappear onto a selection of challenging Invisible Roads geared to your advanced riding experience!

Day One is roughly 400 miles long to our destination – The Lafayette Hotel circa 1927) in Marietta, Ohio.  While the roads are excellent, the scenery through northwest West Virginia is a little lacking - the hard face of poverty. We'll get into Marietta in late afternoon. After settling into the LaFayette, we'll cross the street for dinner at Austyn's, a delicious restaurant and a great find in Southeast Ohio.

Day Two begins at breakfast at 7:00 AM in the hotel. The specific region we’ll be riding has some of the most challenging roads in the United States. Try to imagine SE Ohio as a huge ski area. Several roads are groomed “double black diamonds.” The curves aren’t curves, they’re corkscrews!  There's excellent pavement so ride them smooth and sweet!  Lunch is in Woodsfield, Ohio. Along the route, it's possible to peel off for shortcuts back to Marietta for those who might tire. We’ll get back to the Lafayette in late afternoon. Dinner again is at Austyn’s.

Day Three begins at breakfast at 7:30 AM. We’ll then start the trek east over roughly the same route with a few twists thrown in. A late Lunch is at Tari’s Café in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. Afterward we'll make for Myersville where the Tour will conclude in late afternoon.

This is one of the great Appalachian rides for the advanced motorcyclist. Simple as that. I hope you can make it!
