I describe East Coast motorcycling in July as riding in the “Big Heat.” After an hour or so, the heat is very oppressive.  It’s why I travel to the high ground of the Roanoke Plateau at Meadows of Dan, Virginia during summer’s “dog days.” The elevation on the plateau is 3000 feet. It’s clearer, cleaner, and cooler up there.

This central Appalachian region has excellent motorcycling. From my experience, the best over-all roads found on the East Coast are found in this central region. The Art of Riding Smooth on the Roanoke Plateau consists of two circuit Workshops, one Saturday, one Sunday both departing from Meadows of Dan, Virginia. Each circuit is  roughly 240 miles long.

Lodging is either at the Woodberry Inn (540-593-2367) or at the Willville Bike Camp (276-952-2267) in Meadows of Dan. If you pan to stay at the Woodberry, get reservations for Friday and Saturday early. They fill up.

I will meet you Saturday morning at 8am (you’ll be glad to know I am punctual) at the Marathon Station/Poor Farmers Market in Meadows of Dan for a casual breakfast on the back terrace.

Over breakfast, introductions will first be made.I’ll then distribute and review both the Course Syllabus and wireless radios & headsets. Then we’ll be off for two great rides. There will be plenty of stops each day and lunch is delicious.

After the Workshop you will be better equipped to handle anything on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Tail of the Dragon at Deal’s Gap, The Snake at Shady Valley, and other motorcycling attractions throughout the Appalachian Region. Book Now

“I absolutely enjoyed making your acquaintance, and I sincerely am
looking forward to ‘smooth riding’ with you once again.

It was truly a wonderful experience getting us up to sitting well,
relaxing on the bike, shifting gears like a ‘smoothie’ and handling
twisties in total control. You kept us up and alert the whole way and
I would recommend your workshop to anyone who loves to ride like I do.

Again, thanks for a wonderful weekend and opening my eyes to the greatest complex of ‘invisible roads’ that I have ever seen in this country.” Paul Michelin Boca Raton, Florida
